A Transportation Lp Distance for Signal Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Transport based distances, such as the Wasserstein distance and earth mover’s distance, have been shown to be an effective tool in signal and image analysis. The success of transport based distances is in part due to their Lagrangian nature which allows it to capture the important variations in many signal classes. However these distances require the signal to be nonnegative and normalized. Furthermore, the signals are considered as measures and compared by redistributing (transporting) them, which does not directly take into account the signal intensity. Here we study a transport-based distance, called the TL distance, that combines Lagrangian and intensity modelling and is directly applicable to general, non-positive and multi-channelled signals. The framework allows the application of existing numerical methods. We give an overview of the basic properties of this distance and applications to classification, with multichannelled, non-positive one and two-dimensional signals, and color transfer.

The approximation of road distances by the weighted lp distance measure has been studied in a series of papers ([5, 6], etc.) and it is argued with empirical study that lp distances weighted by an inflation factor tailored to given regions can better describe the irregularity in the transportation networks such as hill, bends, and are therefore superior to the weighted rectangular and Euclidean...

Univariate calibration method is a simple, cheap and easy to use procedure in analytical chemistry. A univariate analysis will be successful if a selective signal can be found for the analyte(s). In this work, two simple ways were used to find the selective signals, spectral ratio plot (SRP) and loading plot (LP). Both of them were able to discover the selective regions in the recorded data set...

Let R,B ⊂ R, for constant d, be two point sets with |R| + |B| = n, and let λ : R ∪ B → N such that ∑ r∈R λ(r) = ∑ b∈B λ(b) be demand functions over R and B. Let d(·, ·) be a suitable distance function such as the Lp distance. The transportation problem asks to find a map τ : R × B → N such that ∑ b∈B τ(r, b) = λ(r), ∑ r∈R τ(r, b) = λ(b), and ∑ r∈R,b∈B τ(r, b)d(r, b) is minimized. We present thr...
متن کاملApplication of Chaos Theory in Hazardous Material Transportation
Risk factors are generally defined and assigned to road networks, as constant measures in hazmat routing problems. In fact, they may be dynamic variables depending on traffic volume, weather and road condition, and drivers' behavior. In this research work, risk factors are defined as dynamic variables using the concept of chaos theory. The largest Lyapunov exponent is utilized to determine the ...

Residential location choice modeling is one of the areas in transportation planning that attempts to examine households location search behavior incorporating their trade-offs between housing quality, prices or rents, distance to work and other key factors. This brings up the need to come up with methods to logically allocate credible choice alternatives for individuals. This article attempts to...
